Lebanese for Refugees (L4R) is a civil campaign to aid the burgeoning number of refugees in Lebanon. Our operations so far have concentrated on Syrian refugees, who number over 1.5 million in Lebanon alone. We operate mainly in the municipality of Arsal and its outskirts.
L4R was first launched by Lebanese journalist and socio-political activist Carol Malouf, after being contacted by the municipality of Arsal in December 2013 in an attempt to shed light on the suffering of 400 refugee families who were stuck in a desolate no-man zone beyond the last Lebanese army checkpoints on the Lebanese-Syrian border, before the snow storm Alexa. The campaign is composed of volunteers (activists, journalists and university students, among others).
L4R works in close association with the municipality of Arsal, and most of the projects have been made possible through cooperation with US Embassy in Beirut, local aid organizations and entities such as Shabab lal-Umma, the Islamic Relief Committee, Al-Irshad wal Islah Group, Foodblessed, the "I am not a tourist" campaign, and Beyond Learning, among others.
Today, L4R's operational area has expanded to cover other parts of Arsal, thanks to the trust invested in us by the municipality of Arsal, our donors and, most importantly, the refugees themselves.
L4R is dependent on donations, with no official support from the Lebanese government, despite working under the umbrella of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
